VioloncelleThe Mexican cellist, Roni Gordillo, has been the categorical winner of two of the most important music competitions in Mexico: First Place Winner and Best Performance of a Mexican Work at the Monterrey National Cello Competition (2018) and 1st Place winner at the National String Quartet Competition (as a member of the Esperanza Azteca String Quartet, 2019). At age 13, winner of the State Award for Culture, awarded by the Mexican Government. Also, semifinalist of the Carlos Prieto International Cello Competition (2019).
He began his studies with Nicolás Capilla, a fundamental pillar in his musical and human training. Roni has recurrently received important technical and pedagogical impulses from Marcio Carneiro. Later, as a pupil of Jean-Guihen Queyras, Roni broadened his performance approaches, essentially in the J.S. Bach and in music of the 20th and 21st century. Currently, Roni is studying a master's degree in music performance with Prof. Patrick Demenga as his guide.
He has received encouragement and performed for artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Carlos Prieto, Olivier Marron, Vladimir Perlin, William Molina, Xenia Jankovic, León Spierer, Jerome Pernoo; his training in chamber music also includes studies with Menahem Pressler, Jorge Risi, Leonid Kerbel, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Heath Quartet, Clemens Helsberg and Josef Hell (members of the Vienna Philharmonic) and Julio Saldaña.
Founding member of the award-winning Esperanza Azteca String Quartet. As a recitalist, Roni has offered numerous concerts in different cities in Mexico, United States, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany and France.
The pedagogical work of Roni Gordillo has already had a mark on more than 200 young musicians and cellists from different cities in Mexico and Central America, from individual classes, cello courses and music-social projects.
